A New Range Of Plant-Based Meat Alternatives Has Been Released – And The Founders Are Certain That The Products Taste Better Than The Real Thing
Glasgow-based DARING Foods say they’ve found the secret recipe to show the world that we don’t need animals for food. DARING’s new range of beef, chicken and other meat alternatives provide another reason why plant-based diets shouldn’t be for Veganuary only.
The vegan company have just launched their new products in 35 eateries throughout Glasgow, including burger joints BRGR and Buck’s Bar. Later this month, the menu will also become available in Burgers and Beers Grillhouse on the Royal Mile, Edinburgh.
Their range includes items such as Moo-Free Burgers, Cluck-Free Fried Burgers, Cluck-Free Nuggets and Fishy-Free Fingers, which will be available to more than 1,000 restaurants across The UK by the end of the year.
The ambitious start-up has also signed a massive distribution deal with Lomond Foods, and is currently in talks with several major supermarkets to create a retail offering.
It all began for the company three years ago, after DARING Foods founders Ross Mackay and Eliott Kessas went plant-based, following a dare by friend who didn’t believe they could give up meat. Once they began looking into veganism more closely, the dare and values stuck.
Ross says: ‘Our meat alternatives taste better than the real thing. Society’s shift to a more plant-based diet is inevitable. People want to eat less meat, but there’s a real lack of options. We’re giving people those options by creating delicious, nutritious and sustainable foods directly from plants.’
‘Glasgow is one of the most vegan-friendly cities in the UK, so it seems like the perfect place to launch the range. In terms of taste, none of the current alternatives come close to meat. Now, going meatless shouldn’t just be for Veganuary. We can help contribute to a more sustainable future and make steps towards removing animals from our food system entirely,’ the co-founder continues.
Emily McDaid, head chef at BRGR says: ‘DARING Foods products are definitely just as good as the real thing. More and more of our customers are requesting vegan alternatives, and the new menu means everyone can be included in the BRGR experience.’
DARING Foods menu will be available from 12 January in some of Glasgow’s most-loved burger joints including BRGR, Buck’s Bar, Buddy’s BBQ, and Burgers and Beers in Edinburgh.
