Aramark, one of the largest foodservice companies in the U.S., has announced plans to offer the all-vegan Beyond Burger at universities in an effort to increase the number of healthful, “plant-forward” vegan options. Dubbed the “All American Beyond Burger,” this vegan burger will be served at Grille Works and Burger Studio, two on-campus dining locations operated by the foodservice provider.
In case you missed it, the Beyond Burger is a fresh vegan burger that “bleeds” pulverized beet juice and has the look, smell, and taste of meat. Made by plant-based company Beyond Meat, the burger is sold around the country.

Available for a limited time, the vegan burger’s addition to university menus comes as part of Aramark’s Healthy for Life 20 By 20 program—an initiative launched in 2015 in collaboration with the American Heart Association (AHA). The program aims to incorporate more heart-healthy, plant-based foods onto college dining hall menus. Currently, 30 percent of main dishes served at higher education locations serviced by Aramark are vegetarian or vegan.
Aramark also cites the growing interest in plant-based eating, especially within Generation Z, as cause for the rising number of vegan options on dining hall menus. The generation’s oldest members are getting ready to graduate college, and they are increasingly interested in animal welfare and sustainability. As a result, vegan foods—particularly alternatives to meat, dairy, and eggs—are skyrocketing in popularity.
In fact, vegan meats are expected to make up a third of the protein market by 2054. So it should come as no surprise that earlier this summer, Beyond Meat announced it would create a second production facility in Missouri specifically to keep up with the incredible demand for its products.
