The biggest producer of pork in the UK has launched its own vegan meat brand — The Green Butcher.
Danish brand Tulip Limited will be releasing its first creation, Vegan Slices with Pepper, to Co-op stores around the UK.
Announcing the release on Twitter, the brand says the slices are “high in protein, low in saturated fats, and contain real vegetables!”
Speaking on the launch, Sam Reader, Tulip’s product development and innovation controller, said “We’ve worked hard to develop the product in collaboration with Co-op and the slices demonstrate our capabilities as a modern food manufacturer to meet the evolving needs of the market.”
More Brands Adding Vegan Options
The trend of food brands adding vegan products is one that can be seen to be happening increasingly around the globe.
Earlier this year, Nestle debuted its first plant-based burger – the Garden Gourmet Incredible Burger.
Last year in the US alone, retail sales of plant-based meat substitutes increased by 23% to surpass $760 million, demonstrating a growing consumer need for these products.
