Luxury Fashion Brand Prada is Going Fur Free!

May 23, 2019

Fashion brands, including the most luxurious, are realizing they don’t need to cruelly exploit animals to design, produce, and sell their merchandise. A few months ago, Chanel ditched fur and exotic animal skins! Other fashion houses that have done the same include Coach, Georgio Armani, Gucci, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, and more! The latest big name in fashion to join the list is Prada!

Prada announced that The Prada Group, which includes Prada, Miu Miu, Church’s, and Car Shoe, and more will no longer use fur in their designs or collections starting from February 2020 after its Spring/Summer 2020 women’s collection!

Head designer Miucca Prada said, “The Prada Group is committed to innovation and social responsibility, and our fur-free policy – reached following a positive dialogue with the Fur Free Alliance, in particular with LAV and the Humane Society of the United States – is an extension of that engagement. Focusing on innovative materials will allow the company to explore new boundaries of creative design while meeting the demand for ethical products.”

To produce fur, animals are bred, raised, then cruelly killed on fur farms. They are confined to tiny cages their entire lives. They are terrified and suffer so much they even attempt to self-mutilate. Animals do not belong in tiny cages or captivity, and they do not deserve to be mistreated and killed just for the sake of fashion. Animals that are often raised on fur farms include minks (the most common), rabbits, chinchillas, and more.

Prada is one of the biggest names in fashion, and we only hope they will also move toward replacing leather and other cruelly obtained materials like exotic skins with more sustainable and ethical materials.
