Oatly Is Bringing Its Delicious Dairy-Free Ice Cream to the USA

June 25, 2019

This month the environmentally conscious Swedish brand Oatly is launching seven ice cream flavors, including chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla, in bodegas in New York! Meanwhile, in Southern California, a pink and green ice cream truck has been driving around, giving residents samples of the frozen treat. Dessert enthusiasts will find a selection of Oatly ice cream flavors at Wegmans later this summer and at Whole Foods this fall.

Known for its clever, sometimes-cheeky advertisements, Oatly boasts a full line of products in Europe, all made from GMO-free Swedish oats, including oat milk, cream, yogurt, ice cream, canned lattes, and crème fraîche. In its promise to be a good company, Oatly states on its website, “We believe we should eat stuff that we can grow instead of growing stuff to feed animals and then eat them.”

In 2016 the company offered its milk in the United States for the first time, supplying coffee shops before moving into grocery stores. The launch was such a success that the company struggled to keep up with demand, eventually opening a 19,000-square-foot facility in Millville, New Jersey, to help fulfill orders. With its new plant completed, the groundbreaking company is ready to expand and bring its popular ice cream to the States.

In fact, reports from around the world show that consumption of animal milk is on the decline, while U.S. sales of dairy-free milk have soared.
